We are seeking a highly motivated person to join the Faculty of Arts and Humanities (FAH) as a Communications and Engagement Officer to help improve communication and engagement across the faculty, and in doing so supporting the delivery of our ambitious vision for the future of the faculty.   The Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the University of Southampton has embarked on a major programme of development to enhance and secure our position as a world leading provider of Arts and Humanities education and research. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Senior Team in FAH, to create and deliver a compelling and energising communications programme to support the successful implementation of our FAH Futures programme. Based at our Highfield Campus, this post holder will plan, develop and deliver innovative communications using a range of approaches to maximise impact and reflect stakeholder need. 

What you will do: 

Working closely with the Faculty Executive Team, key academic staff and other professional services, your roll will be to:  

  • Develop and maintain a diverse programme of stakeholder communications which aligns with both our Change Programme and related Faculty priorities   
  • Design engaging content for FAH stakeholders that explains our vision and excites and informs and builds confidence in progress  
  • Utilise a wide range of trusted channels to successfully reach and satisfy a varied group of stakeholders  
  • Establish methods to analyse and draw insights, including feedback from stakeholders, on progress with the communications plan and its ability to build credibility and trust amongst stakeholders 
  • Adapt the communications plan and approach to reflect progress with the aim to turn observers into engaged participants and advocates 

About you – you will

  • Be an excellent team player with broad, relevant work experience and a proven ability to work proactively 
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to write engaging and dynamic narrative and communications 
  • Have significant experience of delivering internal communications in a large organisations and/or projects and programmes 
  • Have excellent time management and organisational skills and the ability to manage your own workload effectively to meet business requirements  
  • Be able to demonstrate natural relationship building and networking 
  • Be flexible and willing to undertake other duties as required by relevant colleagues 
  • Be a competent user of Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel and Outlook
