Applications are invited for a Legal Clinic Director at Southampton Law School.

There are four job descriptions to cover level 5/6 - Balanced and Enterprise pathways.

About the role

The Legal Clinic Director will be responsible for the establishment of a new legal clinic in Southampton as part of our high-quality and modern education offering. The Legal Clinic will enable students to gain qualifying work experience and offer high-quality clinical legal education.

This unique position offers the successful candidate an exciting opportunity to develop and manage a modern legal clinic which will influence the legal education of students and promote the engagement of the School with the local community. 

The main responsibilities of the role will include:

  1. Working with students and supervising lawyers to manage the day-to-day operation of the Legal Clinic;
  2. Providing representation and high-quality legal advice to clients of the Clinic;
  3. Supervising clinic students to ensure they are given a wide range of legal experience including casework, drafting, client interviewing, legal research and advocacy;
  4. Ensuring accurate records and files are maintained;
  5. Supporting and advising students in the development of their professional legal skills; and
  6. Teaching relevant modules as per the needs of the School.

About you

The successful candidate will hold a current practising certificate as a solicitor or barrister and will have experience as a legal practitioner relevant to the position.

 You will be committed to high-quality education and demonstrate a commitment to access to social justice for all as well as building a vibrant student experience and community. Visible and collegiate, you will be expected to contribute to all aspects of the School’s activities including student recruitment and outreach.  The successful candidate will also be expected to make an all-around contribution to education and research delivery in the School.
