The National institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) is seeking to appoint a passionate and dedicated EDI Manager. With a mission to improve the health and wealth of the nation, we are strengthening our commitment to Equality, Diversity and inclusion to help achieve this. We have identified areas where we need to deliver transformative change and want to embed EDI across NIHR’s research, systems and culture. 

The NIHR is a multi-faceted organisation and the work is delivered across six coordinating centres. As such, every centre will have an EDI Manager to ensure that we achieve “best research for best health… everyone for everyone.” This role is based within NIHR Trials, Evaluation and Studies Co-ordinating Centre (NETSCC) which is hosted within the School of Healthcare, Enterprise and Innovation at University of Southampton. 

The Role:

The post holder will be expected to work across NIHR centres lending expertise and contributing to corporate pan-NIHR centre activities.   They will be the “head, heart, and hands” of the NIHR’s EDI programme –– liaising daily with a variety of stakeholders to manage change and enhance NIHR’s culture and performance as well as contribute to wider challenges for research funders. They will provide various services– from customised toolkits that address our greatest needs. They will support the:

  • Provision of a good quality support service across the NIHR
  • Development of EDI relevant content for the NIHR
  • Development of systems to monitor the implementation, progress, and completion of EDI programmes 
  • Implementation of metrics and performance measures
  •  Contribution to success evaluation and analysis

Who are we looking for?

Our ideal candidate will have had experience in leading and managing project work, as well as a strong understanding of the equality act 2010 and other dimensions related to EDI. You will be a great communicator and able to influence a multitude of stakeholders. You will be able to identify opportunities and approaches to achieve NIHR goals and improve results. More than anything we want someone who is passionate about the work that they do and is dedicated to delivering real change in the health and care research sphere.
