Our suite of undergraduate degree programmes in Criminology are attracting exceptional numbers of well qualified students, and we are proud to host a vibrant community of postgraduate researchers. 

The Department was 4th for research power and 5th for research impact in the 2021 REF and is home to The Institute of Criminal Justice Research (ICJR). Criminology is ranked Top 10 in the UK (The Times Good University Guide, 2021), and our BSc Criminology and Psychology programme is the only Russell Group Criminology and Psychology degree with British Psychological Society (BPS) accreditation. Our Postgraduate programmes are ranked 9th in the Sunday Times 2021 Good University Guide, and 5th in the Russell Group. 

About You

You will be a committed researcher with a strong track record commensurate with your experience. You will contribute to the future development of our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. You will enrich the intellectual culture of Criminology and the wider department and share in the strategic development of Criminology as central to Social Sciences at Southampton. We welcome applications from all areas of Criminology, applicants may have expertise in areas such as policing, artificial intelligence, cybercrime, counter-terrorism, including the violent far right and Incel extremism, hate crime, genocide, environmental crime, marginalisation relating to race and ethnicity, sexuality, gender or disability, media and crime, and criminal justice policy and practice. We welcome applicants whose work bridges criminology, sociology, social policy and research methods, and bring research leadership and innovation.  

For this role you will have a proven track record in teaching and research, producing high quality publications and securing research funding. A doctorate or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in an aligned social science discipline is essential.
