The Education School has a vibrant research community addressing a range of important challenges facing education systems, nationally and internationally.  They offer a range of degrees and programmes from undergraduate, through PGCE and master's to PhD, as well as professional development for teachers. Their work includes collaboration with several organisations to advance policy and practice in education, teaching and learning globally. They respond to issues including how people will work in the future, social equality, lifelong learning, and developing skills in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines.

They are now seeking to appoint a Head of School who will be responsible for developing and delivering the vision and strategy of the School. With strong, creative academic leadership, the Head will oversee human and physical resources and financial management of the School, striving always to deliver excellence in research, education, enterprise and innovation. They will be responsible and accountable for the quality and output of the School as measured by key performance indicators (KPIs) that are aligned to the University and Faculty strategic priorities, objectives and values.

The ideal candidate will bring significant skills and experience in education/research/enterprise programme delivery, with a well-established national and international reputation in subject areas relevant to the Faculty and a proven track record of credible academic leadership. They will bring exceptional problem-solving skills, the ability to work cooperatively and effectively across the University, and the ability to shape a positive culture of management and engagement at all levels.

Salary commensurate with experience.

Additional Information 

This post is offered on a tenured basis for a period of five years, At the end of this tenure, the successful candidate will return to a substantive Professorial position within the University.

As Head of School, you are eligible to access the University’s Corporate Healthcare Scheme for senior staff, subject to the scheme rules. If you elect to join the scheme, the University will pay for the cost of your membership during your term of office, and you can include family members at your own cost. If you continue in University of Southampton’s employment beyond your term of office, you will be able to continue membership of the corporate scheme at your own cost.
