We are currently recruiting a Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Manager to join our National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR) Co-ordinating Centre to help us achieve our mission to improve the health and wealth of the nation through research.
Who are we?
We are part of the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Co-ordinating Centre, hosted within the School of Healthcare, Enterprise and Innovation. The NIHR helps to fund, enable and deliver world-leading health and social care research that improves people's health and wellbeing and promotes economic growth. Our research helps turn discoveries into new or improved treatments, diagnostics, medical technologies and services. It provides those working in the NHS, public health, global health and social care with the evidence they need to better support patients, the public and people who need care.
What will you do?
This is a varied role, but the successful post holder will lead on the development and delivery of assigned research, research impact assessment and mixed-method evaluation, as well as the collation and dissemination of evidence and insight, with the aim of measuring the impact of strategic activities. Some of the key day-to-day task in this role are:
- Planning and delivering mixed-method process and impact evaluation
- Analyse data and prepare succinct reports, presentations etc for key stakeholders
- Provide advice and support to colleagues to improve understanding of evaluation, research impact and portfolio insight.
- Contribute to the identification, curation and analysis of thematic curated portfolios
This is a great time to be joining this role as they continue to be embedded across the business. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to help build and grow the role to meet the strategic needs of the NIHR.
Who are we looking for?
You will have proven experience of planning and delivering mixed-method process and impact evaluation. Additionally you need to be able to critically appraise research evidence and data and translate that into succinct summaries of complex information. Other key skills to be successful in this role include:
- Experience of delivering assigned Research
- Knowledge of research and evaluation methods and approaches
- Solutions-focused approach to work
- Able to manage conflicting priorities and work across multiple projects
- Excellent communication skills to liaise with a variety of stakeholders and understand their needs

We also know that the world of work has changed and so we are open to flexible working arrangements and work in a hybrid way with staff expected to attend our Southampton offices around 20% of the time.
This role is offered as full time (35 hours per week) but we may consider part time to 0.8 WTE, please just state this in your application.
