The University of Southampton seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Philosophy on a full-time, permanent basis.

The Philosophy Department at Southampton has an excellent reputation for teaching and research. We were ranked 6th in REF2021 by overall GPA and 1st equal for impact. We are based within the School of Humanities in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and have close interdisciplinary links with other members of the School and the wider University. The University of Southampton has a global reputation for its ability to work collaboratively in delivering world-class education, research and innovation that makes a proven impact on society’s greatest challenges. It is a founding member of the Russell Group, a top 100 global university (QS World Rankings, 2023) and top 15 in the UK (Complete University Guide, 2023).

The successful candidate will show outstanding potential as a philosopher, will be enthusiastic and flexible in contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and will be keen to participate fully in the intellectual and academic activities of a lively and committed department which prizes collegiality very highly. The successful candidate will have a PhD in Philosophy by the date of appointment as well as proven teaching skills. The AOS and AOC for the post are open. But the ability to teach business ethics and/or in areas that would enhance our PPE programme or our new Liberal Arts programme may be an advantage. Research with the capacity to have impact beyond the academy may also be an advantage.

The successful candidate should be able to take up the post by Monday 25th September 2023.
