About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Office of Development and Alumni Relations team at the University of Southampton, creating and delivering a range of strategic communications for our alumni and supporter community.

You’ll be responsible for planning and delivering a whole plethora of communication tools to support our fundraising and engagement. You’ll be supported by a Communications Officer, who you will line manage.

You will be responsible for activities such as:

  • Working with our partner website development agency to create and maintain engaging, user-focussed websites
  • The strategy and delivery of social media campaigns
  • Managing photoshoots
  • Working with videographers to develop compelling video content
  • Managing digital advertising campaigns
  • Creating and delivering strategies to improve data and engagement amongst our key target audiences
  • Creating and delivering email campaigns
  • Working with our in-house data team to create smart, segmented mailing lists

Your work will help us raise millions of pounds to support our life-transforming research. So… if you care about making a difference, this could be the role for you.

About you

You’ll have a number of years of marketing communications experience, ideally gained in a charity or education environment. We are looking for someone who can hit the ground running and has the expertise and experience to take ownership of projects.

You’ll have a strong understanding of digital channels, including website, video, digital advertising and social media. You’ll also have an eye for design and possess good marketing writing skills.

With a passion for making a difference, you will thrive in a busy environment, have exceptional project management skills, and be adept at collaborating with a wide range of different stakeholders.

Line management experience will be an advantage.

About us

At the University of Southampton, our aim is to change the world for the better, bringing together realms of research, creativity and knowledge to have a truly collaborative, immersive and ground-breaking impact.  We care about the challenges that humanity is facing, and work to support others on a local and global scale.

In the Office of Development & Alumni Relations, our job is to galvanise our community to solve these challenges and to make a difference.

It’s a very exciting time to join us as we are about to embark on an ambitious £100m Campaign for Southampton. One of our key focusses will be on medical innovation; this fund will address the world’s most pressing healthcare challenges through interdisciplinary research. We have the chance to make a real difference.

We need people with intellectual curiosity and people who have different ideas.  We need people with direct experience or transferable skills and the interest and drive to take on a new challenge.  We are actively determined to welcome a diverse group of colleagues into our inclusive team.  Every day will be different, you will meet incredible people and the rewards will be huge.

Imagine fundraising for medical technologies that could cure cancer or dementia. Or helping a student from a disadvantaged background attend University—because of a scholarship or mentoring that you helped secure.  That could be you.

Help us change the world. Join us.
