Catering Assistant
The Campus Kitchen is the University of Southampton’s in house catering service. We facilitate a multitude of services across the University to include the provision of food in catered halls, retail catering outlets across all campuses and a delivered catering service for all hospitality requirements. Our aim is to deliver a five-star food service, catering for a wide range of needs and requirements and enhancing the experience for staff, students and visitors on campus.

The role
The working hours are on a full-time basis. There will need to be flexibility on hours to include evenings and weekends though the majority of shifts will be Monday to Friday. Whilst the majority of shifts will be on Highfield campus, you will occasionally be required to facilitate events on other campuses and University buildings.
This role is incredibly varied and will suit a well organised individual with a passion for delivering high levels of customer service. Day to day duties will include café and food service, to include setting up, preparing hot drinks, taking food orders and running food from the kitchen as well as assisting with the set-up, service and clear down of conference and hospitality events. There will also be some general clearing and cleaning duties, operation of plate-washing equipment, assisting with basic food preparation under guidance from chefs and operating a till and card payment systems as required.
Additional working benefits of the job include time off over the Easter and Christmas period due to University closure days, bank holidays and a 36 hour working week.
About you
You will be a highly motivated, friendly and proactive individual who takes pride in their work and prioritises the customer experience above everything else. You will strive to ensure excellent service standards and thrive when working as part of a team. You must be prepared to work extra hours and provide further flexibility during busy periods: September to November, Graduation weeks and Open days.
Ideally you will have some experience working within the hospitality industry, whether that be in a restaurant, café or hotel environment. A good knowledge of food and beverage would be advantageous.
