A Research Data Scientist is required to work on the delivery of an ambitious and innovative project between University of Southampton and Align-Alytics, which combines commercial practice with academic research.
Based at Align-Alytics, in Holborn, London the Research Data Scientist will join an established team and will be supported by the Commercial Director and a Senior Data Scientist. Regular support will also be provided by the academic supervisors based in the Centre for Operational Research Management Science and Information Systems (CORMSIS) at the University of Southampton. .
The Research Data Scientist will play a crucial role in advancing the business’s revenue management systems and introducing an innovative approach to operating within the travel and leisure sector.
This is a great opportunity for a Research Data Scientist to expand their technical, commercial and project management skills, gaining exciting exposure to the impact of the innovation they will be embedding into Align-Alytics.
Additional external mentoring is provided along with a personal development budget of up to £4,000 over the 24 months.
There is also up to 10% bonus per year.
This will be part of a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP), which is an Innovate UK part funded programme, enabling business to access and leverage relevant academic research for commercial gain.

Specific Requirements
You will need to feel comfortable working on technical projects at the interface between academic research and commercial practice. Specifically, they will be required to undertake the following:
- Take the lead in identifying opportunities to add value and market competitiveness to the Revenue Management System platform through employing established analytical methods.
- Develop and implement proof-of-concept algorithms tailored to industry requirements.
- Support the commercial launch of the RMS platform, including technical documentation, system handover, and client training.
- Project Management & Stakeholder Management.
- Communication of key ideas to commercial and academic partners, and potentially end users
The successful candidate will have the following skills, experience and attributes:
- Relevant Qualifications in Advanced Analytical methods (PhD or equivalent professional qualifications and experience).
- Analytics coding skills (Python desirable).
- Experience or knowledge of Agile methodologies.
- Interest in understanding and solving complex mathematical and statistical problems.
- Confident communication skills for internal and external stakeholder / customer interaction.
- Although ‘nice-to-have’, previous exposure to revenue management analytics techniques is NOT a prerequisite
