Student Disability Team Leader

About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the University of Southampton as a Student Disability Team Leader in the Student Disability and Inclusion team. Sitting within the Student Support Directorate, our team is dedicated to delivering high-quality, seamless support and advice for disabled students within the framework of the Equality Act 2010. This includes students with long-term physical or mental health conditions, neurodivergent students (such as those with autism and ADHD), and those without a formal diagnosis of disability.

In this role you will:

  • Lead with confidence: Manage a team of specialist practitioners by setting clear objectives, managing performance and development, and ensuring KPIs are achieved
  • Navigate complex casework: Maintain robust management oversight of students with complex needs, including the convening and chairing of student case conferences
  • Collaborate across the university: Work in partnership with various departments and faculties to ensure a seamless and joined up approach to disabled students’ experience
  • Develop student-centric processes: Create and maintain clear processes and procedures that put students at the heart of everything we do.
  • Ensure operational excellence: Collaborate closely with the management team to ensure that the service operates safely and efficiently, and that staff are supported in their roles.

You'll be based in our open-plan office on Highfield campus, with occasional work from other campuses as needed. We offer the flexibility of occasional home working and require occasional weekend and evening work for university-wide events such as open days, graduation, and transition days for new students. This role requires an enhanced DBS check.

About you

We are looking for an enthusiastic leader who is passionate about inclusivity and committed to enhancing the experience of disabled students. Successful candidates will hold a relevant degree or be able to demonstrate an equivalent skill level and/or hold a relevant specialist qualification. Proven management experience in a related field (such as disability advisors, occupational health, or specialist teaching) is welcomed.

You will bring experience in working collaboratively within multi-disciplinary contexts, ensuring that coordination of support is handled effectively. An understanding of working within a Higher Education setting would be beneficial, but your ability to lead teams is paramount.
