Looking to take the next step towards a permanent academic position?  Why not join one of the UK’s most dynamic centres for engineering and environmental research and education, rated number one for research power in REF2014. Our New Frontiers Fellow programme provides a structured post-doctoral career development pathway to a permanent academic position and aims to enhance the careers of future academic leaders.

You will be expected to develop an international reputation for excellence in research. The Faculty has nearly 200 academic staff working in a number of research themes (http://www.southampton.ac.uk/engineering/research/themes.page). Your research interests will strengthen or broaden these themes. We are particularly interested in candidates who can exploit state-of-the-art facilities at our new Boldrewood Innovation Campus (fluids and structures/infrastructure) and/or contribute to new strategic thrusts in autonomous vehicles, automotive engineering, electrochemical engineering and human factors/biomedical engineering.

You will also take a leading role in the delivery of core courses at undergraduate and masters level; currently these include mechanical engineering, aeronautics & astronautics, civil & environmental engineering, environmental science and ship science.

You will already have a track record of producing peer reviewed publications and able to supervise PhD researchers. We are offering an opportunity for you to develop independence in research, success in grant applications and excellence in teaching and education including a postgraduate certificate in academic practice (PCAP).  On successful achievement of the core competencies (see New Frontier Fellows expectatation) you will be eligible for appointment to an open-ended academic post at Lecturer/Associate Professor level.
