We are seeking a postdoctoral research fellow to join the Tavassoli lab, to work as part of a multidisciplinary team funded by Cancer Research UK, that aim to identify, assess and develop compounds that selectively inhibit the protein-protein interaction between KRAS and its effector proteins. This work will be conducted in collaboration with scientists at the Francis Crick Institute and Barts Cancer Institute. The project will initially involve using our genetically encoded high-throughput screening platform to identify cyclic peptide inhibitors of the above protein-protein interaction, followed by synthesis and biophysical analysis of the lead molecules. The most potent compounds will be assessed in cells and used as the starting point for the development of next generation inhibitors.

Candidates should have a PhD in chemistry, biochemistry or related discipline, and a track record of academic and research excellence. Prior experience and expertise in organic chemistry, preferably peptide chemistry, and medicinal chemistry is essential. Experience of molecular biology, protein expression and analysis of ligand/protein interactions is desirable, but not essential.

The post is funded for 36 months. For additional information please contact Professor Ali Tavassoli by email (ali1@soton.ac.uk). For more information on the Tavassoli lab, please see the group’s website www.personal.soton.ac.uk/ali1
