Director of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) INVOLVE Coordinating Centre

We are looking for an exceptional individual with proven strategic leadership experience and proven commitment to public involvement, engagement and participation in health and care research for the role of Director of INVOLVE.  The Director will provide leadership based on a compelling vision, insights and an external view. You will lead the NIHR INVOLVE Coordinating Centre and hold ultimate accountability for the quality, cost and effectiveness of the provision under a £3.2 million four year contract with the Department of Health.

The NIHR INVOLVE Coordinating Centre is funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) to support public involvement in NHS, public health and social care research. Over the last 20 years it has become internationally recognised as a lead organisation in public involvement in research. From February 2016 the Centre will be hosted in the Wessex Institute at the University of Southampton, an institution in the top one per cent of world universities and one of the UK’s top 15 research-intensive universities.

With proven leadership experience in complex, demanding and influential roles, you will lead a team of public involvement advisers and support staff, building alignment around public involvement in research with a wide and diverse range of influential NIHR and external stakeholders. You will be a national and international ambassador for the work of the NIHR, INVOLVE and its activities keeping INVOLVE centre-stage as the citizens’ voice in research on matters of health research policy and practice.

You will also use your experience of establishing and delivering through strategic partnerships, to shape the future organisation and development of INVOLVE alongside the NIHR Research Design Service (RDS).
