Applications are invited for a Research Fellow to work on the EPSRC-funded interdisciplinary Research Hub “Cyber Security of the Internet of Things”.  The consortium comprises University College London, Imperial College London, Lancaster University, University of Oxford, University of Warwick, Cardiff University, University of Edinburgh, and the University of Southampton.  The consortium will work together to explore critical issues in privacy, ethics, trust, reliability, acceptability, and security.

The University of Southampton team, led by Professor Dame Wendy Hall and Dr Thanassis Tiropanis, will be responsible for the “Internet of Things Observatory” programme, the aim of which is to take an “observatory” approach to data gathering, sharing, analysis and evaluation for the emerging Internet of Things.  The main focus will be on data collection, in order to support the five main themes of the Hub and explore the use of the W3C Web of Things standards for data integration and interoperability.

You should possess a PhD* (or equivalent) in Computer Science or related discipline and have established a strong pedigree in your area, as evidenced by publications in top quality journals and conferences.  In particular, expertise in one or more of the following areas will be an advantage: web science and web technologies, web analytics, decentralised systems, linked and open data, privacy, trust and provenance, social computation, Internet of Things.

*Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.

The post is for 2 years in the first instance.
