Silicon Photonic

We are seeking an experienced and motivated researcher in the field of integrated photonics and semiconductor processing to take up a role within the EU ICT 2020 funded project COSMICC (CmOs Solutions for Mid-board Integrated transceivers with breakthrough Connectivity at ultra-low Cost - http://www.h2020-cosmicc.com/ ). You will collaborate on the simulation, mask design, process development and fabrication of Silicon Nitride (SiN) waveguide architecture and Silicon Germanium (SiGe) based active devices.

You will join a fast growing team of over 40 researchers focussing on the field of Silicon Photonics, based within the state-of-the-art Zepler Institute Cleanroom Facilities (http://www.zeplerinstitute.com/facilities) at the University of Southampton, UK.  The project will be under the supervision of Dr Frederic Gardes.

You will have a strong semiconductor process development background and device fabrication with some experience in photonic and semiconductor design, modelling suites and CAD layout such as Silvaco, L-edit, Matlab, Photon design and Lumerical.

You will also have a background in laboratory experimentation with critical evaluation and interpretation of data and a PhD* or equivalent qualification related to semiconductor processing or integrated photonics. Experience in Silicon nitride, Silicon and Germanium processing and device fabrication would be advantageous.

*Applications will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon completion of PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
